The Passing Clouds (For my loving wife Pauline)
The sky’s a little brighter now, darkest clouds have moved away.
I see a glimpse just here and there of bright beyond the grey.
My heart is just as heavy, my tears still fall and sting,
but then when least expected somehow I start to sing.
My bed is still a lonely place, perhaps will always be,
for we shared a special love, learned over 60 years you see.
Don’t mean the love of long ago when passion ruled to day,
but we had learned a different love, of care, of warmth, of play.
So as I look through my window and see a hint of blue,
I smile and try to picture her just as the ‘girl’ I knew.
And I think I see her face once more, no longer drawn in pain,
so I’ll bide my time until one day the sun will shine again.
