Symptom Management Study Day: Pain, breathlessness and fatigue in palliative care

Course Content

A full-day study session covering assessment and management of pain, breathlessness, and fatigue in palliative care (Assistive & Registration levels, NHSE 2025).

The study day includes:

  • Recognising ‘red flag’ indicators
  • Multi-dimensional assessment of symptoms
  • Pathophysiology of different types of pain
  • Pharmacological management of pain- with consideration to the analgesic ladder; the use of strong opioids; and adjuvants
  • Considerations for the use of oxygen for breathlessness in palliative care
  • The role of therapy team in palliative care
  • Non-pharmacological management, including self-management, of pain, breathlessness, fatigue and anxiety.

Eligibility Criteria

This study day is ideal for registered healthcare staff who are band 4 and 5 (or equivalent), who want to enhance their knowledge and skills palliative and end of life care.
