Families welcomed to celebrate the opening of The Cabin
On Saturday 15th July, St Gemma’s Young People’s Service were excited to welcome over 60 children, young people and their families to preview The Cabin, our new designated space for children and families who have been bereaved. Among those attending were young people who contributed to the design consultation process with architects ArkleBoyce over three years ago, so they were delighted to see how all of their fantastic ideas turned out.
We were also excited to reveal the batik silk painting, which was created in collaboration with artist Donna Fox through various workshops with the children back in June. The artwork is now looking beautiful hanging in the cosy counselling space. The children enjoyed spotting their own designs and seeing how these have been incorporated into this special and unique piece of art.
A really fun day was had by all. Families were entertained by Magic Matt the magician, everyone enjoyed great food and cakes provided by the Bistro and took part in craft activities to decorate the interior of The Cabin. Everyone loved the new purpose-built space and were so impressed by the design, the relaxing and calming atmosphere, and the great facilities.
We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone involved in the day, including Mr Whippy who kindly provided everyone with delicious free ice creams, Magic Matt for the fantastic entertainment, our Bistro team for putting on lots of tasty food and our Estates and Facilities team for supporting with all the preparations.
Thank you also to all the staff and volunteers who helped on the day to make it such a wonderful day for everyone we support and to ADT Flexibles who sponsored the event.
