End of Life Care and Dementia

Course Content

This session addresses the challenges of delivering compassionate, person-centred palliative care for people with dementia, offering practical tools and strategies for professionals and carers. (Supportive, Assistive & Registration levels, NHSE 2025).

The study session includes:

  • Understanding Dementia and its progression
  • Communication strategies
  • Assessment & management of pain, distress and other symptoms at the end of life
  • Advance care planning and end of life decision making in the context of dementia
  • Person centred holistic and psychosocial approaches to care.

Eligibility Criteria

This session is ideal for health and social care professionals working in dementia care, or caring for people with dementia at the end of life, who want to deepen their understanding and improve their practice.
