Ethical Issues in Palliative Care and End of Life Decision Making Study Session

Course Content

Ethical Issues in palliative care are multifaceted. This session will explore a range of ethical and legal considerations that guide end of life decision-making (Assistive & Registration levels, NHSE 2025).

The session includes:

  • Bioethical principles that guide professional practice
  • Ethical issues that arise when caring for individuals at the end of life
  • Decisions made in key historical cases in the context of professional practice
  • Examples and implications for practice
  • Assisted Dying and its implications for patients, family, professionals and carers (including up-to-date information on the UK Bill).

Eligibility Criteria

This course is ideal for registered health and social care professionals who are band 4 and 5 (or equivalent), who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in palliative and end of life care.
