Overview of Advance Care Planning (Including understanding the ReSPECT process)
Advance care planning (ACP) is a person-centred discussion between an individual and their care providers about their preferences and priorities for their future care. It is essential for ensuring that individuals’ wishes are respected when they can no longer speak for themselves. This course will help you feel confident and competent in initiating, supporting, sharing and recording these important conversations.
What You’ll Learn:
• What ACP is and why it matters
• When and how to start ACP conversations
• Underpinning legislation of the Mental Capacity Act
• Different components of ACP, informal and legal: Advance Statements, Lasting Power of Attorney, Advance Decisions
• Documenting and sharing individuals’ preferences effectively
• The ReSPECT process and how it links into ACP.
Eligibility Criteria
This course is ideal for anyone working in health, social care, education, or community roles who would like to build their foundation knowledge and confidence within this area of practice. Suitable for both support staff and qualified professionals.
