Course Content
A full-day study session covering Holistic Needs Assessment in palliative care; assessment and management of nausea, vomiting and constipation; delirium and terminal agitation (Assistive & Registration levels, NHSE 2025).
The study day includes:
- The concept of ‘total pain’
- Multidisciplinary team approach to meeting individuals holistic needs.
- Strategy, guidance and tools supporting a Holistic Needs Assessment
- Pathophysiology of nausea, vomiting and constipation.
- Prevention and detection of delirium
- Recognising terminal agitation as part of the dying process
- Pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to managing these symptoms
- Use of sedation at the end of life
- Impact on carers ; Carers Support Needs Assessment Tool
- Recognising ‘red flag’ indicators
- Self care.
Eligibility Criteria
This study day is ideal for registered healthcare staff who are band 4 and 5 (or equivalent), who want to enhance their knowledge and skills palliative and end of life care.
