Christine’s Story

Meet Christine, one of our amazing Boston Spa volunteers.

When Christine retired in 2009, she knew she wanted to support St Gemma’s, and with Boston Spa being her nearest shop, it was the perfect fit. In good weather, Christine enjoys cycling to her volunteering shift, which takes her around 15 minutes. She says, “It’s great – I can get some exercise in and volunteer on the same day, so it’s a win-win.”

Christine is a valued member of the Wednesday volunteer team at Boston Spa and has built strong friendships with both fellow volunteers and many of the shop’s regular customers. Whether she’s serving on the till or helping to display new stock, she loves being part of the shop’s welcoming atmosphere.

“It’s such a beautiful shop,” says Christine. “It feels more like a boutique than a charity shop. Customers often comment on how easy it is to find just what they’re looking for because everything is sized and colour-coordinated, making it simple to find just the right item.”

One of the highlights of volunteering for Christine is attending the annual volunteer celebration lunch at the hospice.

“It’s wonderful to meet so many other volunteers from across the charity,” she says. “We enjoy a lovely meal together, along with entertainment and quizzes. Everyone is made to feel so special, and it’s a really thoughtful way for St Gemma’s to thank us for the support we give.”

Through her volunteering, Christine has found a rewarding way to stay active, meet new people and make a meaningful contribution to St Gemma’s, something she clearly really enjoys being part of.

Thank you Christine for your support and dedication!
