Jane’s Story
Meet Jane, one of our marvellous Moortown Volunteers.
Jane moved to Leeds from Wales last September. She’d previously volunteered in her old locale, so she already knew just how rewarding volunteering can be. Jane was looking for a way to give back to a cause close to her heart and, having seen a close friend supported by hospice care, she wanted to help make a difference for others facing similar challenges.
When Jane visited the St Gemma’s Moortown charity shop, she immediately felt welcomed by the friendly team and knew she had found the right place to volunteer.
“The volunteer team here at Moortown are such a lovely bunch and it’s been great getting to know the regular customers,” says Jane.
Whether she’s chatting with customers or working behind the scenes, Jane finds every shift rewarding, saying: “It can feel very rewarding getting a full rack of clothes steamed, tagged and ready for the shop floor.”
After taking part in a tour of the Hospice, where volunteers get the opportunity to visit St Gemma’s and see first-hand the work that goes on, Jane saw exactly how funds raised through the charity shops support patients and their families with compassionate care, comfort and support.
“Knowing that every purchase plays a small part in helping St Gemma’s meet those needs makes every sale feel even more meaningful.”.
