Yogna’s Story

My journey with St Gemma’s started when I began volunteering at the West Park charity shop. I really enjoyed being part of the team and supporting such an important cause, and I’m very grateful that this eventually led to me joining the retail team as Bank Deputy Shop Manager.

I recently took part in a tour of the Hospice, which was a very special experience for me. Although I have been supporting St Gemma’s through the shops, the tour gave me the opportunity to see the Hospice itself and understand more deeply where the money we raise goes and the difference it makes to patients and their families.

What we do in the shops has a real and meaningful purpose.

What I found most interesting was learning about the different aspects of the care and support provided by St Gemma’s. It made me realise even more how much work goes on behind the scenes and how every person who contributes, whether through volunteering, working in the shops, fundraising, donating or shopping. It all plays an important part in making that care possible.

The tour was also quite emotional and really made me feel proud to be part of the St Gemma’s family. It reminded me that what we do in the shops has a real and meaningful purpose.

It gives you a completely different perspective and helps you see the impact of your contribution. For anyone thinking about taking their volunteering journey further, I would also encourage them to be open to the opportunities available within St Gemma’s. My own journey from volunteer in the shop to becoming part of the retail team is something I’m very grateful for.

I’m very proud to support St Gemma’s and to be part of such a wonderful organisation.
