Philanthropy can have a transformational impact at St Gemma’s

Whether you are a charitable trust or individual able to make a significant gift to the Hospice, your support can help us plan for the future.

Significant or ‘major’ gifts from trusts and individuals help us to fund invaluable services, equipment and site developments, as well as innovative new projects.

Funding vital services and innovations

We are currently running a number of exciting projects and developments that are funded by Charitable Trusts and Foundations or for which we are seeking funding.

We are always keen to broaden our networks and meet new potential donors who wish to support our work

If you would like to have a chat about opportunities to partner with St Gemma’s to support people in our community with life-limiting illnesses, please get in touch with our Philanthropy team via fundraising@st-gemma.co.uk to arrange a conversation about how you can make a difference by funding the vital services the Hospice provides in Leeds.

More information about St Gemma’s Hospice can be found in our current annual Trustees’ Report and Financial Statements and Quality Account, both of which can be viewed online.

Areas you or your charitable trust or foundation can support include:

  • Core hospice services: in-patient unit care, community care services and outpatients
  • Key equipment including beds, mattresses, riser-recliner chairs and syringe drivers
  • Projects to improve the Hospice’s built environment and its sustainability
  • Specialist bereavement support for adults and children
  • Therapies including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and complementary therapies
  • Training, education and research in palliative and end of life care.

A cool collaboration

Thanks to Sovereign Health Care Community Programme, we were able to install this environmentally-friendly ice machine on our ward.

Ice is a valuable resource for patient care all year round, not only in hot weather. Ice cubes can provide instant relief for patients with problems swallowing or other discomfort, providing cool relief and increasing fluid intake.

Our ward staff can also use the easily-available ice to make up ice-packs to help reduce inflammation and swelling, relieving pain and discomfort for patients.

Creating a safe space

Our Young People’s Cabin is a purpose-built child-friendly space for St Gemma’s Young People’s Service. The service offers specialist bereavement counselling free to any child under the age of 18 in Leeds who has lost a close loved one following a terminal illness.

The Cabin is a welcoming space in the Hospice gardens, separate to the main building, with a counselling room and an area for group activities.

Thanks to the support of several charitable trusts, including The Morrison’s Foundation, The Screwfix Foundation, The B&Q Foundation, The Bruce Wake Charitable Trust and The Harry and Mary Foundation, as well an incredible donation of £50,000 from our Patron, Marilyn Stowe, the Cabin was completed in 2023.

The philanthropic support of Marilyn and others has transformed the experience of young people being supported through bereavement by St Gemma’s.
