Symptom Management Master Class: Care and Decision Making in the Last Weeks of Life

Course Content

National guidance acknowledges there is just “one chance to get it right” when caring for individuals at the end of life. This study day allows senior healthcare professionals to come together to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting individuals and their families during the final days of life (Advanced level, NHSE 2025).

The study day includes:

  • Recognising the signs that death is approaching
  • Talking to patients and families about death and dying
  • Considering patient choices and decision-making around end of life care
  • Individualised end-of-life care planning
  • Spiritual care
  • Nutrition and hydration at the end of life including mouthcare
  • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of symptoms in the last days of life.

Eligibility Criteria

This study day is ideal for registered healthcare professionals working at Enhanced and Advanced level of practice (band 6 and above) supporting patients with terminal and long-term conditions receiving palliative and end of life care.
