We are sad to announce that Sister Anne Hammersley died peacefully at the Hospice on Friday 26 July 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Sr Anne was one of the founding members of the Hospice, the Sisters of the Cross and Passion.
Sr Anne was an integral part of the Hospice for many years. Most recently, she was a member of the Hospice’s Board of Trustees, attending her last meeting in June. She was always wise counsel to the senior team.
St Gemma’s Chief Executive Kerry Jackson said:
“We send our deepest condolences to Sr Anne’s family, friends and fellow Sisters of the Cross and Passion. It was our privilege to care for Sr Anne and she was so grateful to receive support from the Hospice team in her final days. She had been unwell for a while and told me recently that she hoped her illness would make her a more understanding and informed member of the Board of Trustees. Her insight and dedication were incredible and she will be missed. I feel honoured that St Gemma’s was part of her life right to the end, and that she was comfortable, where she wanted to be, surrounded by people she loved, and in the place she gave so much to during her life. May she rest in peace.”
