Sister John worked tirelessly managing the kitchens at St Gemma’s for 20 years, right from when it opened. She was much loved by everyone and remembered Helen, Agnes and their family fondly. Now living in Belfast, we were privileged that she made this special trip as part of our 40th Anniversary year. ... See MoreSee Less

The first patient admitted to St Gemma's when we opened our doors 40 years ago was Terry, a 49-year-old father of three. Terry's daughter Helen and wife Agnes recently revisited the Hospice to talk about their experience back in 1978. Thank you to Helen and Agnes for sharing their story.
Helen explained: “They looked after and cared for him so well at St Gemma’s that he changed his outlook. They were just amazing people. They got on top of his pain which made his situation as bearable as it could be. He was so grateful because they made his last months as comfortable as possible.
“St Gemma’s is on a much bigger scale now, but the standard of care is still second to none.”

Marilyn Stowe's fabulous and extensive collection of designer clothing, from her career as one of the UK's top family lawyers, is being auctioned this Saturday, February 10th to raise money for St Gemma's. Marilyn generously donated the collection in memory of her father, who was cared for by the Hospice.
Marilyn says: "The proceeds of this sale will all go to St Gemma's, for the part they played in three bleak dark months following my father's diagnosis when none of us knew how best to help him. To anyone with a love of the best, please do consider purchasing an item of clothing. All have been bought with love, some were an impulse and have never been worn and your contribution could not be going to support a better cause."
