Michael and Amanda’s trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Our Family Support Team is made up of social workers and counsellors who work with patients, their families, friends and carers by offering practical and emotional support. Every day is different as they cater to individual needs, whether that’s offering practical advice about housing and financial planning, organising for them to go on a trip they’ve always wanted to go on, or helping them access counselling or bereavement sessions.
They truly are an amazing team that pull out all the stops to provide ongoing support. Jade, a Social Worker within the team, wanted to share how she recently supported Michael.
“Michael was recently cared for by the Moors ward and sadly died with us on the 21st September. I supported Michael and Amanda by organising a trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, as this was on Michael’s wish list. I liaised with The Ambulance Wish Foundation, who transported them and got them free entry. This was an enjoyable day for them both and the nursing staff commented on how much Michael’s mood lifted after the trip!”
Amanda sent me a message to say “I would like to thank the staff at St Gemma’s for organising our wish to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, making our last memory together so special and I would also like to thank the staff at St Gemma’s for looking after my husband so well in his last few weeks”.”
