Supporting carers at our Carer’s Café

St Gemma’s Carers’ Café provides support for those caring for someone with a life-limiting illness. The group offers a safe space to relax, meet others and seek advice.

Who can attend the Carer’s Café?

The café is open to everyone who is caring for a loved one with a life-limiting illness.

Carers are welcomed to our comfortable, light and airy Out-Patients building by a friendly and experienced team of professionals. Help is available for those feeling stressed, worried and tired as a result of caring for a loved one.

The people attending are different ages, genders, religions and from different backgrounds, and they all have one thing that acts as the glue that binds them together – caring for someone with a terminal or life-limiting illness.

St Gemma’s Carer’s Café offers:

A break from the role of caring
The opportunity to meet a small, welcoming group of others in a similar situation
A chance to share experiences with other carers and offer support to each other
A safe, relaxed environment where you can discuss your needs and worries
Useful information including leaflets and internet access
Access to support and advice including exploration of coping strategies

I was physically, mentally and emotionally worn out. It was the first time in 12 months I was able to just feel safe, to feel love and support of others who could identify and understand my caring role.

When does the Carer’s Café take place?

The Carers’ Cafe takes place from 11am-12.30am on the first and third Thursday of every month.
