Rose’s volunteer story
Looking to meet new people? Hear how Rose has benefited from volunteering.
Rose has been volunteering with us for 8 years. She has a personal connection with St Gemma’s and feels very passionate about the care and support we provide to patients and their families.
After retiring from nursing, Rose saw an advert for volunteers in our Street Lane shop window and decided to apply. Although she was really nervous at first, she received such a warm welcome from the staff and fell in love with it on day one. “It’s a real social outlet,” says Rose, “I love being part of the team and have made some lovely friends.”
Rose’s role is varied and she’s always happy to help out with anything that needs doing. Within the first 20 minutes of our visit to the shop, Rose had served 3 customers, helped a lady in the changing room and took in 2 lots of donations!
One of her favourite things is getting to know customers who come in on a regular basis, she loves to chat and that people know her by name.
Rose would recommend volunteering to anyone. If you would like to find out more about volunteering in our shops email your contact details to volunteering@st-gemma.co.uk, call 0113 2185193 or apply online at www.st-gemma.co.uk/volunteering.
