Evidence Based Practice is the integration of clinical expertise, patient values, and the best research evidence into the decision making process for patient care.
The evidence-based practice group within the AUPC is responsible for bridging the gap between academic developments within palliative and end of life care and clinical practice.
Collaborating with clinicians across St Gemma’s, we aim to embed a culture of evidence based practice into everyday clinical care. We develop and review a number of key clinical guidelines relating to practice ensuring they are in line with latest evidence. We oversee a clinical audit programme and we are responsible for the implementation of a range of clinical outcome measures.
In combination, these activities enable our clinical teams to deliver evidence based care that is individualised to each patient, we are able to monitor the degree to which our practice reflects latest evidence and we are able to scrutinise patients’ experiences in terms of how our interventions affect symptom burden and quality of life.
