Angie’s volunteer story – 15 years of volunteering with St Gemma’s Hospice
This week we went to have a chat with Angie, one of our shop volunteers. The first thing she said to us when we saw her was how much she loved supporting St Gemma’s. She said: “Volunteering at St Gemma’s is a way of life.”
Angie was supported by our bereavement services, so St Gemma’s is a charity close to her heart. In the 15 years Angie has volunteered with us, she supported our bereavement support groups; welcoming people, making drinks and chatting to those who attended.
She also volunteers in our Halton and Garforth shops. Her passion is window displays. As you can see from the photos, Angie has a real creative flair and put together this fantastic Valentine’s Day display! She has also held a Christmas wreath making workshop and has supported us with fundraising events.
Angie told us: “My individual needs are always met and the team are really supportive. Volunteering in two shops means I meet a lot of people and they know how passionate I am about St Gemma’s. People will often give me their donations to hand in!”
Thank you so much Angie for your ongoing support. It means that our retail team can continue to raise vital funds to support patient care at St Gemma’s.
We would love you to read all about volunteering in our shops. For more stories, visit https://www.st-gemma.co.uk/category/our-blog/volunteering/
