St Gemma’s Memory Funds

Create a lasting online memorial for your loved one.

St Gemma’s Memory Funds are an individual, permanent tribute to your loved one that you can personalise to cherish their memory.

When you lose someone you love, it is only natural to want to honour their memory. Finding special ways to remember them can be a positive experience during your bereavement.

St Gemma’s Memory Funds have been created in partnership with MuchLoved to bring you a special, private place online where you can: share photos and videos, write memories and stories of their life, light virtual candles or leave gifts and raise funds for the Hospice. Once your tribute is set up, it remains there always, for you and those you share it with to visit whenever you are missing them.

A Memory Fund means your loved one will always be remembered, and your support means St Gemma’s will be always caring.

What is a Memory Fund?

Your Memory Fund is a special way to remember a loved one who has died.

It is a webpage where you can pay tribute to your loved one in lots of personal ways – from adding messages, thoughts, photos and video, to making a donation or fundraising for an event. Your Memory Fund will have its own unique web link which you can share with others.

Is there a cost for creating a Memory Fund?

There is no cost to you for creating a room of remembrance. We work together with the MuchLoved Charitable Trust who enable us to offer this special service. They have been working in the sector for over 20 years and support hundreds of charities in the UK. You can find out more about them at www.muchloved.com

How do I set up a Memory Fund?

It’s easy to set up a Memory Fund, all you need is a valid email address. When setting up your Memory Fund, you enter the name of the person you are remembering, a photograph of them (optional) and a message to be displayed. Once the Fund is set up, there are a range of lovely ways to personalise your page.

How long will my Memory Fund last?

Your Memory Fund will remain online in remembrance of your loved one until you choose to close it.

Can I keep my Memory Fund private?

As the fund holder, you decide the privacy settings. This includes choosing whether you would like to approve messages or content added by others, before it appears on the page.

How do I share my Memory Fund with others?

You will have a unique link/url which you can share with people via your social media and WhatsApp, or by sending them an email through the ‘invite’ setting on your memory fund page.

How are donations collected?

In a similar way to sites like JustGiving, donations raised through your page are collected by Muchloved.com and processed using Stripe. They are automatically transferred to St Gemma’s bank account on a regular basis. This means the whole donation process is handled for you and saves us time too.

Smiling family portrait

Vicky Hick shares why her family gives back to St Gemma’s, after her husband Mark was supported at the Hospice, during the coronavirus pandemic:

“Mark was the life and soul of the party and loved by everyone who knew him. On the the 19th January we got the blow that Mark had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, it was terminal. We tried as a family to make amazing memories but COVID-19 had other plans, so we hid ourselves away together as a family. My brave strong warrior put up an amazing fight against a cancer that was to be unbeatable.

“He was admitted to St Gemma’s Hospice on Wednesday 2nd September. I was allowed to stay by his side. The care and support we both received was so lovely. He was well cared for with dignity till his last breath. We only spent 2 days in the hospice. Mark passed away on Friday 4th September with me, his mum and his brother by his side.

“We have raised £1,200 for St Gemma’s in memory of my amazing man. The girls and I know we can get support from St Gemma’s along the way if things get too tough. I can’t thank them enough. God bless everyone who works there you are all angels.”
