The sky’s a little brighter now, darkest clouds have moved away.
I see a glimpse just here and there of bright beyond the grey.
My heart is just as heavy, my tears still fall and sting,
but then when least expected somehow I start to sing.
My bed is still a lonely place, perhaps will always be,
for we shared a special love, learned over 60 years you see.
Don’t mean the love of long ago when passion ruled to day,
but we had learned a different love, of care, of warmth, of play.
So as I look through my window and see a hint of blue,
I smile and try to picture her just as the ‘girl’ I knew.
And I think I see her face once more, no longer drawn in pain,
so I’ll bide my time until one day the sun will shine again.
It seems like forever since I was last able to walk into your room and say ‘hello grandad’ and make you a cup of tea. Words can’t ever begin to describe how much we all miss you, and wish you were here still. Luckiest girl on earth to have you as my grandad.
‘Smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile then maybe tomorrow,
You’ll see that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile’
All our love always, to the best Dad/Grandad/Great Grandad.
