We are delighted to announce that we are building a new Young People’s Cabin. The new, sustainable building, located in the Hospice gardens, has been specifically designed with bereaved children in mind.
The St Gemma’s Young People’s Service supports children and young people when someone in their family is seriously ill or has died. The team arrange all kinds of activities for children of all ages, to help them cope with their feelings and worries. We don’t just support children associated with the Hospice. The service also extends to children across Leeds whose loved one is receiving or has received palliative care.
Work on the cabin has been underway since early February and will open this summer providing a dedicated space for the hundreds of youngsters supported by St Gemma’s bereavement team each year.
Nic from our Young People’s Service says:
“We’re so excited about this project! We believe that this purpose-built, child-friendly space will make a big difference to the children we work with. The environment where we see children really impacts how relaxed, how engaged and how open they are able to be.”
A huge thank you to everyone who has generously supported this project so far.
