Caring Kib
At St Gemma’s we pride ourselves on training and developing our staff. This includes offering opportunities for progression to our staff, allowing them to do their very best and even move into a new career in healthcare.
We’re delighted that Kib has decided to take the plunge and begin his journey into healthcare, starting as an apprentice healthcare assistant.
Kib joined our team over seven years ago, firstly working in the Hospice’s Bistro and then serving patients and their families on the In-Patient Unit. While working on the In-Patient Unit, Kib enjoyed talking to patients and their families. Many of his colleagues recognised his naturally caring and patient manner and encouraged him to apply for the new role.
Kib says:
“This is an exciting opportunity to develop my career at St Gemma’s and take my first step to becoming a healthcare assistant – and, one day, maybe a qualified registered nurse. St Gemma’s is so supportive and I am happy to start my training with such a great team, and they are really helping me to build my skills and confidence.”
St Gemma’s Chief Nurse, Heather McClelland, added:
“We are delighted to support the career progression of our staff and the apprenticeship provides a pathway to a healthcare career for team members without any previous clinical experience. The scheme allows us to grow our own caring workforce, offering opportunities to staff that we know already embody St Gemma’s values.”
We all wish Kib well in his new role and healthcare career!
